Teena Shouse Leadership Scholarship BIZ Award

 

General: The IFMA Business Community (BIZ) established an Academic Scholarship Award for its members, named after Teena Shouse, CFM, IFMA Fellow, who has significantly contributed to the FM profession, and specifically, Facility Managers. This award, known as the BIZ Community Teena Shouse Leadership Scholarship Award, aims to be granted annually, subject to the BIZ Board’s budget and the receipt of suitable applications. The BIZ Community Professional Development Team will administer these scholarships.

The scholarship will be awarded annually on World FM Day or as decided by the BIZ Board.

Background: Teena Shouse, President of FM Transitions, exemplifies a life well-lived. Since the late 80’s, Teena has led in various facility management leadership roles with FEA, Aramark, and Sprint. Teena has served as a active volunteer for many local, national, and international organizations, including the global chair of the International Facility Management Association.   Teena Shouse values mentoring; therefore, the panel may award extra points to candidates who are actively mentoring someone or being mentored.

Purpose: The BIZ Community seeks to recognize and reward excellence in facility management globally. As the responsibilities of facilities management consultants evolve, a career in professional facilities management consultancy requires credentials beyond effective communication and problem-solving skills. Successful consultants demonstrate the ability to provide and maintain effective workplaces, an awareness of workplace trends and technology, and a commitment to professional ethics and values.

Award: The BIZ Community Teena Shouse Scholarship Award, valued at up to USD $1,500, will cover the cost of attaining IFMA Credentials. It will be awarded to a candidate nominated according to the eligibility criteria, recommended by the BIZ Professional Development Team Selection Committee, and approved by the BIZ Board of Directors. 

Aim: The scholarship aims to provide Facility Managers with the opportunity to achieve IFMA Credentials annually.

Eligibility:

  • Scholarships will typically be granted to an individual only once.
  • Candidates must be members of BIZ.
  • Candidates must be full-time Facility Managers. Titles may vary but leading FM in some form or fashion.
  • Candidates must have been IFMA members for at least two years prior to application.
  • Candidates may be nominated by a BIZ member or self-nominated.

 

Application, Selection, and Award: Invitations to apply for the scholarship will be circulated to all BIZ members. The BIZ Professional Team, in consultation with IFMA, may also explore sending invitations to all IFMA members. The invitation will indicate the closing date for applications and the address to which they should be forwarded. Reminders will also be issued.

Applications should be sent to the Components@ifma.org  and the subject of the email titled “BIZ Community Teena Shouse Leadership Scholarship BIZ Award”.

The scholarship will be awarded to an eligible candidate based on the responses to the selection criteria. Applicants may be required to undertake an interview.

The BIZ Board will select the successful applicant(s) following a recommendation from the Professional Development Team or a panel established to review the applications.

Candidates may be required to write a 1000-word essay explaining why they believe IFMA credentials are critical to the FM profession.
